Not only do they use my all time favourite publicity shot, the colour scheme just looks so damn classy. It’s worth the 25 odd quid just for how it will look on my shelf!

Anyway, it seems to be business as usual for the second volume of everyone’s favourite vanilla DVD release, with all the episodes bundled in with zero extras. The menus are utterly beautiful, as with Vol. 1, exhibiting a selection of the more fetching model (or CG in VII and VIII’s case) shots from each series. My only gripe is the fact that all the discs are branded exactly the same, rather than sporting their own individual photos on the front. Still, it’s an understandable situation, given that they would need to be produced on the cheap. Also: they REALLY should have been called Byte 1 and Byte 2. You can TOS over the details here.

You can expect a stupidly in-depth review from one of us lot upon the release of this, no doubt, and hopefully things will be looking quite considerably different in the OD world by then, too. Watch this space, and try not to forget about us… We’re going to be back and kicking bottom in a large way soon enough.

It's amazing what a bit of late night Googling can do. Seb, Cappsy and I were having a discussion about whether Doug Naylor used to be really fat, so I searched for "Doug Naylor" on Google Images. After a while, it came up with this page. From what we can tell, it's the Estonian version of Last Human!

But just look at that cover illustration. We think it's supposed to be the Snugiraffe, throwing up over some prisoners. Two things to point out: 1) The Snugiraffe didn't throw up everywhere, it was the people that saw it that threw up; 2) the artist obviously couldn't be arsed to read past Part One Chapter One, otherwise he'd have drawn something that actually had something to do with the main plots and themes of the book.

Miscellaneous: The Duke of Manchester flubs his lines in one scene, saying "I'm afraid I don't have that kind of money I'm afraid", and is visibly seen to flinch after doing so.

He did flub the line, however, from watching the rushes, the flinching (and subsequent biting of lip) seems to be more aimed at stifling the corpsing than concern over the flub.

Factual errors: One of the "parody" lines is a misquote, saying "You're a cancerous polyp on the anus of society", rather than "on the anus of humanity" as said by Rimmer in the episode "Terrorform".

Oops.

Plot holes: Helen Norman researches "the Duke of Manchester" on the Internet immediately after Doug has come off the phone to the Australian, despite his not having mentioned the name of the caller.

Well, it's quite simple really. When the Duke rang Helen, he started his phone call with who he was, as many people do. Helen didn't know Manchester well enough to know if there was a Duke or not, so Googled him.

Crew or equipment visible: Stray chairs, supermarket carrier bags and a refrigerator are clearly visible in the background of scenes that were intended to be set in an office building (but were, in fact, filmed in the kitchen of a University halls of residence).

Grant Naylor Productions were in a temporary office for the weekend.

Oh, and it was a fridge freezer.

So - anyone got some more goofs for us?

This item has now been cancelled from your order and we can confirm that

Please accept our apologies for any disappointment or inconvenience
caused.

Until recently, you'd hoped you could obtain this item? For a non-existent product? And it took you five months to work this out?

The really stupid thing about this is: how did it become available to pre-order in the first place? Once plans for something have firmed up, fine - add them so you can pre-order things. But what's the point of adding something like this, when it wasn't even close to being confirmed? Of course, I suppose that could be the BBC giving Amazon false information.

But the other stupid thing is... you can still pre-order the fucker. Well done, Amazon!

It's unfortunate that Observation Dome has only just surfaced from an extended period of sporadic technical hitches, but now that we're back in a more permanent way, I'd like to remind you all of the existence of DwarfWiki.

I’ve been slowly but surely building up and organising various sections over the past few months and I reckon it’s at a point now where people can really jump in there and get totally stuck in. For example, every episode now has a list of its credits, so every single credited member of cast and crew potentially have their own page. Do you know anything about some forgotten person who operated light rigs during The Inquisitor? Perfect! Get it written down and give these unseen individuals some content.

Also, I can see great potential for the Red Dwarf Universe and Fandom sections of the Wiki. For a start, any of you fansite owners out there (active or dead) then get in there and edit your site’s page, or - if you’re not listen there - make yourself known!

There’s a shed load to be done and I’m eager for people to continue the excellent start we saw a few months ago when it launched so we can all turn this into a quite staggering database of Dwarf we can all be proud of. Just take a look at LostPedia for a good example of what level of detail we could attain.

Wiki away, Dwarfers.
