VII Extended...?

According to discussion on the webboard, GNP are giving serious consideration to having the "Xtended" versions of the series VII episodes as the standard on the next DVD. Nothing's official yet, but according to our sources you can expect mention of it in tomorrow's DVD update.

What do you think of this? I'm not sure. I think the Xtended versions come off really badly - not because of the material that's kept in, but because of the way the laughter track was removed. It's not pleasant watching the actors leave pauses inbetween lines for laughter that doesn't show up, and I hope that if this rumour is indeed true, a laughter track is added back to the episodes. That said, some good material is in the longer versions, so maybe it wouldn't be such a bad thing. But should they be kept as broadcast? Or as Doug originally wanted them? It's a tricky one.

Yes, this was a gag. A wheeze. A joke. Sorry, folks. Solks. The idea of this post was that it would be a red herring, that you'd all immediately twig that it was a gag, and thus think that the movie script was real. Ironic, then, that more of you were conned by this! Including Mister Ellard himself. Hurrah. Anyway, you can read more about it here. Hope you enjoyed it, anyway.

Balls. The DVD episodes should be as broadcast, not those Xtended versions.

I think you messed up that link though, Seb.

Indeed. Maybe something can be done with the little used "Angle" feature, so you can either watch them with XTended or without.

Possible. Maybe.

I prefer the Xtended Tikka, but definitely the laughter should be added in. There's some really excruciating moments in this and the other Xtended eps where there's just silence because they weren't edited for no laughter.

Maybe they could add some of the unused model shots into the episodes if possible. I know they didn't use them because they didn't fit the 'plot's but I'd rather have a completely irrelevant model shot (or a piece of previous series stock footage) than another pathetic 2D CG Starbug.

I haven't read the entry on the TOS boards, but I can't imagine GNP doing this. They'd sound awful without the laughter track, and then presumably they'd have significantly less stuff to go in 'deleted scenes'.

If you ask me, most of the Xtended stuff was worth losing anyway. I liked the Squeaky Gibson story and why Cat is the centre of the universe, but the rest I just smiled at.

Donno whose making this up, but we've never said anything of the kind. We are considering including them, but as an alternative, not the main.

As everyone knows by now, we've always been committed to putting the shows on 'as broadcast' wherever possible.

"Nothing's official yet, but according to our sources you can expect mention of it in tomorrow's DVD update."

No you can't! Whose your source? Cos it's not even been considered yet!

Anyway - what DO people think? Worth including IN ADDITION TO?

By Andrew on 01-04-05 @ 14:11

Oh, hang on. April 1st, innit. Tut. You got me.

Anyway, still, what's the thinking on these eps for inclusion?

By Andrew on 01-04-05 @ 14:14

I think it'll be great if these were included on the DVD, but not at the exteense of others extras as they're not entirely essential. So, if you have the space, yes :)

By Cappsy on 01-04-05 @ 14:53

Yay, that's one person fooled then :)

Anyhow. Yes, I think it would be nice to have them on the DVD, although I can see space being an issue. The problem is that the new scenes are mostly interwoven in, which means that it would be good to have them intact still.

By Mr Flibble on 01-04-05 @ 15:26

I'm with Cappsy. Include them as long as it doesn't affect the special features. If it does, then just put the deleted scenes on the DVD.
