Observation Dome

Erm... It's Gonna Be Well Wiki-ed?

That headline is plainly not good enough.

No matter. Observation Dome proudly presents DwarfWiki - a database of everything there is to know about Red Dwarf... eventually. As with all wikis, this is a collaborative venture - we've started it off, but we need YOU to help write it. So pick your favourite thing about Dwarf, and get stuck in. We've hopefully given it enough structure to get everything started - and we'll be adding stuff as well, of course.

Get to it, biatches. Or something.

I am so glad you have added this! I was attempting to add that kind of info on channel 27, but never had the time (hence the demise of the site). This is exactly whats needed as others can spend time doing the writing (and fixing errors!) instead! Long live the Dwarf Wiki!

I'm sure I speak for the others when I say "We're glad you like it!".

It's been great to set it up.

Just one thing though, there are still a few rough edges, such as with help pages and the like. I've linked to Wikipedia for now, and we'll sort the rest out soon.

There are also some other pages we probably won't end up using. But we haven't got rid of them yet.

I must say, I'm both impressed and delighted at the amount of work that's been done in such a short amount of time since the launch. Thanks, everyone, and keep it up!

A very nice idea.

Looks good, I like the way you've managed to integrate Mediawiki into the site design so it doesn't look like just another wiki - I never managed to do that with the ones I setup.

It took quite a long time. Especially as the div's used in MediaWiki are rather confusing...

Just wondering, but since this is a free resource, and in the end can only help Red Dwarf and GNA, will they have a problem with us posting images in the articles (Presuming it relates to the article!)?

By Ghostie on 09-01-06 @ 12:49

As long as it is "for the purposes of review", legally you can use copyrighted stuff. The problem is actually defining "the purposes of review".

I see, but in order to describe an article, it may sometimes be hard to to that with a whole load of text, so an image of the description might be a heck of a lot easier :)

By Ghostie on 09-01-06 @ 13:08

I know... :)

By Kirk [TypeKey Profile Page] on 09-01-06 @ 13:09

I was wondering this, too. I say go for it, though. If it turns out to be a problem then they can be easily removed.

Image uploading is however turned off, and you cannot remotly link to an article. Thats that then! ;)

I have about 24gb left on one of my servers. If you can find a way to upload to there from this site... I am happy to provide a large folder to store the images.

This is an excellent initiative. I hope it becomes as massive as it deserves to be.

Great stuff. One thing I think could be added for each episode is like notes about the episode that aren't plot inconsistencies, production errors etc. e.g. for Marooned it could be put that it was originally titled 'Men Of Honour' and also the extra shot of snow Starbug at the end that allows the reclassiffication. Forgive me, I've had a few. I like the lack of roman numerals for 1 and 2. That right there is true fandom...

I must say - I'm just so pleased at the response to all this. We were excited in the run-up to launch, and it's had possibly the best reaction to anything I've been involved in.

Well, anything LEGAL, anyway.
