That Emohawk deleted cockpit scene

CAT: You wanna know what I think?
THE OTHERS: No!

I swear, they could have done an entire episode just set in the cockpit, in real time. It would have been marvellous. In fact, I bet they would have got round to it, if Dwarf kept the same format for any length of time...

I'm with you on that one. The cockpit door could have got stuck, trapping them there, and Kryten's worried about the supper in the oven...

I notice you've put a comment blocker-check-thing in place. This wouldn't have anything to do with the diet pills thing on every single comment board, would it?

It's strange that the plot of Duct Soup was contrived so that we'd have a 'talkie' episode when they already had a ready-made set-up for such an occasion.

Not really, how would that have worked? They get trapped in the cockpit so they decide to put the ship on autopilot and talk about their childhoods?

I dunno. Off the top of my head; Some macguffin about a wibbly thing in space that could shorten the journey to Red Dwarf. Problem is it's unstable, so the crew are on tenterhooks all episode, waiting for the right moment to enter.

Kinda like that traffic jam episode from One Foot in the Grave.

Okay, it's daft. But no dafter than that weird unstable reality thing that causes Starbug to expand, thus give them miles and miles of ducts in which to get lost.

You forget, we already had this episode - Marooned. I don't think doing an episode with the 4 or 5 of them stuck in the cockpit would have worked. There's nowhere for it to go seeing as they're stuck together most of the time anyway. Besides, an episode of that nature requires good writing, so if it was in later series it would have sucked anyway. Some of Duct Soup is good but it's just so fucking contrived.

I don't think there would have been much need for a contrived explanation if they'd have just had an episode set in real time. As Monkey says, they spend all their time together anyway. An episode that was just them sitting in the cockpit during a quiet period with no threats or interesting places to explore would have been potentially great.

Not much of a plot, though.

By Spid on 25-10-05 @ 20:14

Infinitely better than the plots in VIII...

A lot of sitcoms get round to the "nothing" episode - Men Behaving Badly (sit there all episode and watch Star Trek), I'm Alan Partridge (Alan is bored, so goes for a walk up the duel carridgeway), One Foot In The Grave (Victor has to stay in for a phone call, or the one set in the traffic jam).

I suppose Marooned is the closest we get to this - but there is still a plot, and high drama. A cockpit version with *no* jeopardy plot at all could have been wonderful.

The duel carridgeway, there.

Fucking hell. I was concentrating so hard on spelling carriageway right, that I... erm... spelt them both wrong.
